Over the past thirty-three years, attorney David Matthews has fought tirelessly for his clients and gained national attention due to his refusal to back down in the face of injustice.
David’s long history of success has made him one of the country’s top litigators and a trailblazer in his field. He has been selected as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” by U.S. News & World Report 2016-2020, recognized as a “Texas Super Lawyer,” a Thomas Reuters publication, 2003-2004, 2006-2020, and in 2020 voted as one of the Top 100 National Trial Lawyers in Texas. David is also a Martindale-Hubbell A-V rated attorney, one of the most distinguished honors an attorney can receive.
David has also been cited by several news outlets, including CNN, Dateline MSNBC, and Mother Jones Magazine, as well as interviewed for National Public Radio (NPR). He has also provided his legal expertise to publications such as The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Houston Chronicle, the UK’s Daily Mail.
David’s commitment to justice began early in his professional career as partner in one of the oldest personal injury firms in Texas. He then opened his own firm, focusing on mass tort litigation where his skills could be used to simultaneously help thousands of injured individuals—in doing so David has obtained substantial verdicts and settlements in pharmaceutical and medical device litigation including a September 2014 verdict for a Texas woman in a transvaginal mesh sling case and an October 2019 verdict against an IVC filter manufacturer on behalf of a Pennsylvania client.*
David’s drive to fight for his clients extends beyond medical device and drug litigation. He has handled employment and civil rights issues, environmental lawsuits, toxic torts, premises liability, plant explosions, nursing home abuse, priest abuse, wildfires, Roundup cancer, car and truck accidents, mesothelioma, and more.
Outside the courtroom, he’s a committed father to five children, a husband of over thirty years, and an active member in the community. He contributes to several charities, including Human Rights First, where he also serves on the board. He loves music, running, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
